Three Main Points of My Life

I have been writing this blog for a very long time. According to Rebecca Blood's Weblog Handbook you should be able to tell what you and your life are really about by simply looking to your own blog. This claim is based on the fact that it is very likely of you to write about things you are interested in.

When you look at my blog I guess there are three main points about my life that you can tell:

  1. I'm a movie geek. No, I'm a geek who truly enjoys watching movies. You will see a lot of movie reviews here in the future.
  2. I hardly have any friends. I have less friends you can count because some of those so called friends I have mentioned here are definitely not my friends anymore.
  3. I don't leave the house often. If you drag my computer out there I may follow. But otherwise I usually stay in.

I guess there are more in me but it doesn't translate as far as here. There are things that I'm very passionate about but I just don't have the right words to write these things down.

Just Our Luck

Today I went to Robert's Coffee with Aleksi. He bought us two hot chocolates. I immediately sensed that there were something wrong in them. And I was right. They tasted nothing like chocolate. It was more like drinking warm milk or something, no matter how much I stirred it. So I went back to the lady who sold them to us and asked nicely if we could have like proper hot chocolates. You know, ones that taste like chocolate too. She was really skeptic towards my complains but she made us new ones. This time they were fine.

After the drinks we went to Anttila to seek some DVDs. Aleksi found Just My Luck for me and it was extremely cheap. Of course I bought it since I collect my favourite Lindsay Lohan movies. I have already seen Just My Luck for several times but I look forward to see the extras on the DVD.

Third time lucky

I just finished watching Kate & Leopold. I can't remember the first time I saw it, but I know that this was the third time I saw it. It is truly a traditional romantic comedy and definitely a chick flick. But I have to admit that I love this movie. I just love it. The actual plot is not so believable but the good characters and great actors are enough to save the whole movie. Hugh Jackman does a wonderful job as Leopold. He steals every scene from Meg Ryan and turns them to pure charm.

I also watched Lucky Number Slevin for a third time yesterday with Hannes. It is a movie that gets better and better the more times you see it. It's absolutely brilliant and it gets me hooked every time. And have I mentioned that I have a thing for Bruce Willis? He used to be my favourite actor when I was young. I was into action movies back then.

"That was fast - you can still improve, though"

When I was younger I used to read a lot of online comics. Nowadays I only read Misfile and White Ninja. They are very different to each other. I have been reading Misfile for about four years now. It's getting better and better all the time. The plot is absolutely thrilling and the cartoonist is getting more talented every day. White Ninja is awesome too, but to me the jokes are often too short. It is still the funniest comic I know.

I made this typing skill test and this is how I scored:

Your score: 419 keys per minute ~ 83 words per minute
Language/mode: classic-fi
Ranking: That was fast - you can still improve, though.
Comparison: 14% of registered TyperA users using this language have typed a better result; 86% have a lower or equal result.

You typed: sanoineen luukku hienompiin hyvästeli pojille kaapelista hilluvan immo demonien omaksi leijoniin viittojen ampujaa kahdenkin liikeni perttula koemalli uida suitsuta romantismi pennuista ylleen amanuenssi joka vinkkeli suhtautuu ylleen muistavani työnkuvaus jäkälistä tulolajien ystävykset nuori niiloa heittämäni pelaamaan vanhin venhnää lainoja immo makaakin päivystää ilmarista jaotteluun hannun näkevämme romantismi pääyhtiän iloinen puskema

Mistakes: venhnää(vehnää), pääyhtiän(pääyhtiön), iloinen(loinen)

I was on my lap top so that explains a lot. You can take the test here.

"Your tea is getting cold!"

I don't drink coffee. I used to drink when I was very young but one day I just stopped. I got bored I guess. I think coffee is seriously overrated anyway. And most people drink it only to get their daily dose of caffeine. I'm a tea drinker instead. I got a nice teapot, some serious teacups, an urn (makes the best tea ever!) and, of course, a water boiler. And, of course, I have a nice selections of different kinds of teas. Today I chose to drank African Rooibos.

Yesterday we watched The Queen. I expected it to be dull but I was so wrong. It was very interesting and instructive. Even though I was old enough to watch news when princess Diana died, I can't really remember any of it. So to me watching this was more of an essential lecture of history than just a movie. And Helen Mirren totally deserved her Oscar. Her acting was so good.

The video below is a trailer for The Queen.

One of these days

Yesterday we watched Hannibal Rising. It was boring. I love the Hannibal trilogy by Thomas Harris but none of the movies really capture the Hannibal from the books. Hollywood tries to make him so monstrous. In the books he is mostly charming.

And today we went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I think it was pretty good. But it is a total waste of a character if there is not going to be any romance between Harry and Luna. They would be a perfect match. They should rewrite the books to make this happen for me. Potter itself looks a bit plastic though. I would like to see him more messier.

Aleksi's aunt gave him an CD. It was a bit weird gift since we don't have a CD-player anymore. We mostly listen to mp3s. Anyway. He didn't really listened to it but I did. It was a Dutch band called Kane. It was their new album. His aunt said the band is very popular in Holland. I guess she knows what she's talking about since she lives there. Below is a live video of Kane performing their song "Believe It". It's not their greatest song but it's a good example of their music.

Sleepless

I'm back from Viiala. I spent there only four days this time. On Tuesday I was with my sister and his husband when they purchased some furniture. I saw a nice dresser but unfortunately we have no room for any new furniture. On Thursday I met Elina at Tampere. Her place was done very nicely. It was extremely homey and she had the nicest aquarium ever. She gave me some of her old fashion magazines but I left them in Viiala. It's better to have something to read in there since there are no broadband.

My mother gave me some stuff again. She bought me a very nice smock and a very nice sleeveless top from flea market. And I also got a facial scrub and a lip gloss. And money of course. She wanted to give me some food too but I said no, no, no. I'm fat enough without her extra delicacies.

I also saw a boy from my upper level of comprehensive school (tricky). I realized that most of the boys who used to loathe me back then would probably bang me now. Fat chance, losers!

Last night I borrowed some DVDs to Hannes. It turned out to be a very long trip and I didn't got home until 8 am. But it was totally worth to miss a few hours of sleep. And I'm no amateur. I can stay up all night easily. I suffer from some kind of insomnia. When I go to the bed it takes pretty much an hour or more to fall asleep. It's quite annoying actually. I just don't get sleep no matter how tired I am. My mother wants me to consult a doctor for some pills but I'm not into it. I'm not bothered about the fact that I can't get sleep. I'm bothered when I have to go to bed when I know it's useless.

John McClane has things to do

Yesterday we went to see Live Free or Die Hard aka Die Hard 4.0. I really didn't know what to expect. Die Hard used to be my favourite movie when I was about 14 years old and I still love it. But the two following sequels pretty much hit the rock bottom. So there was a chance that it was more like the first Die hard or the chance that it was just another poor sequel to make some more money out of it.

Now when I have seen the movie I have no other choice than to say that it was better than the first Die Hard. They took everything that was good in the first movie and totally updated it. So the result was very modern but still very original at the same time. What I especially loved was that John McClane was still reluctant to save the world. That is the one thing we can always count on.

If you loved the original, you will love this too. The video below is a spoiler-free trailer for the movie.

Confessions

I just watched Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen with audio commentary on. I can't understand why some people don't like that movie. I absolutely love it. It's brilliant and inspiring. They say that it is not realistic. Hello? It's a movie and all movies are unrealistic. That's what the movies are about unless they're like documents. They say that the plot is dull. To me it's fresh and very funny. They say that Lindsay can't act. But her acting is absolutely amazing in this movie for sure. She can act and that is the fact. All the people she have work with have said so. And what I especially love in this film are the costumes. I could kill somebody to get Lola Steppes wardrobe. She is so cool and versatile in her clothes. And the movie is also very aesthetic to watch in every single scene. I like when there are plenty of details and colours.

So people who don't understand this movie are probably very boring. They have forgot what it is to be in high school. And they probably don't have any sense of humour or an eye to a beauty. There are movies that are not meant to be taken so seriously. Some movies are made just to entertain us and to help us to have a good time.

Here is a clip from the movie. Lola is auditioning to a high school musical.

The Last Samurai

A little while ago my aunt gave me a book called The Last Samurai. I just finished reading it and I don't know whether I liked it or hated it. Basically it was a really good book. The plot was fine and the characters were really realistic and so on. There is this boy, Ludo and his mother, Sibylla, and they both are like intelligent to the extreme. And that is what annoys me. If the character is smart, the author must be smart too. So it gives the feeling that the author only wanted to prove that she's a real intellectual. And the readers must be stupid if they haven't heard of whatever theories they are talking about in the book. It made me feel a bit stupid. But, luckily, most of the time they are watching The Seven Samurai by Kurosawa. And I have totally seen that movie!

Whining

Today I bought a small notebook. I will keep it on my desk so I can write things up. Before I had this great notebook I used to write things on toilet papers. Or whatever I managed to crap. Why there are always pens but no paper?

I've been into webdesigning lately. Yesterday I made a whole new look to my other blog. It makes me sad that I don't get paid for designing. I work long hours when I work. And my skills are improving all the time. But I'm still not even near professinal and I have seen 15-years-olds doing better designs that I do. That is quite depressing. I love to code CSS but there are limits that I can't expand. I'm self taught and somewhere there is a point where there is nothing I could teach myself. Sometimes I'm so bitter that I'm studying to be a dental hygienist. They have nothing to do with webdesigning.
